Animated Native American children’s video of the 19th century Seminole adventurer, missionary and educator John Douglas Bemo.

As a direct descendant of John Bemo, also known as Talmasmico (“King of the Forest”), I wanted to develop some historical teaching materials for the children my large, far-flung extended family of Bemo descendants, who number in the hundreds and have long revered our family’s “grand old man” and his colorful life story.

So, here is an animated video that briefly chronicles his younger years, celebrating his courage in the face of personal loss, before and during the tragic Second Seminole War that changed the lives of our people forever.

You can also look over some additional genealogy materials in my essay Sail of Tears and a (woefully incomplete) family tree.
